This 3D ribbon shows a typical New Zealand channel survey. The dark blue is the resistive area and the red is the conductive area where leakage is greatest.

HERBI 3 is a geo-physical instrument, exclusively available to Sustainable Water in New Zealand.

HERBI 3 combines three measuring instruments, GPS, Sonar and Electrical Resistivity to help gain a comprehensive insight into identifying areas of high leakage and seepage.

Leak Identification in Delivery Channels

For most earthen irrigation delivery races and channels, a 20% average loss is a conservative estimate. Sustainable Water's sophisticated analysis equipment is specifically designed to detect the areas of high leakage and seepage. Once these "hotspots" have been identified, we can accurately flow test both upstream and below the area of concern, therefore quantifying the losses and enabling a more targeted approach which supports an efficient and economical remediation.

In some cases we can successfully reduce leakage and seepage without any need to shut down.
